FUNDRAISING
ACTIVITIES / ANECDOTES
Being that the Kindred
Journey charity was founded in Ebensburg, PA, there have been
and continue to be numerous fundraising events both within the
parish and the associated elementary school. These events
are too numerous to mention, but it must not go without saying
how the resulting contributions have added up over the years.
For many years, Holy Name Parish
and School were responsible for the lions share of donations.
However, as word of Kindred Journey's work has spread by word of mouth,
plus with the advent of this website and our Kindred Journey Facebook
page, we are now seeing more and more support from all over the United
States.
As such, below we will seek to
highlight various fundraising activities that are not directly part of
Holy Name Parish or School.

GALLITZIN,
PA:
Students
at the local public middle school recently took up a collection which
resulted in a donation of $1260 to Kindred Journey.
BOSTON,
MASSACHUSETTS:
After hearing the news of the
earthquake, a public elementary school decided to raise money for the
children of Haiti. A fifth-grade girl who had heard about Kindred
Journey from her family suggested that donations be sent there.
Ultimately, the school decided to host a "Hats for Haiti" day.
Students and faculty were permitted to wear a crazy hat all day long at
school for a donation of $1. Although there are only 300 students
in the school, together they raised over $700, which was sent to us at
Kindred Journey.
LORETTO,
PENNSYLVANIA
CONCERT FOR HAITI 2010 - The St.
Francis University Fine Arts Department sponsored a benefit concert
called “Concert for Haiti 2010" on Monday evening, January 25th. The
group "Drum the Ecstatic International" as well as the Saint Francis
University World Drumming Ensemble performed to raise funds to help our
brothers and sisters in Haiti.
BOSTON,
MASSACHUSETTS:
A 9-year old boy also from the
Boston area was getting a haircut recently when he heard some people in
the shop discussing the poor situation in Haiti. Again, having
heard of Kindred Journey from his parents, he proceeded to tell the
barber and the others there about the good work that our organization
has been doing in Haiti long before the earthquake. Based on that
discussion, the barbershop, together with the fitness center next door,
will be holding a "Haircuts for Haiti" day in March. In addition
to all proceeds from the day's haircuts being donated to Kindred
Journey, there will also be a large basket raffle and bake sale.
WORLAND, WYOMING
Kindred Journey recently received an
unexpected donation from St. Mary Magdalen parish in Worland, Wyoming.
The donation resulted from an email broadcast to friends sent out by a
member of the Holy Name Parish staff.
